Studies: Sinology and Far Eastern History at the Philological Faculty, Charles University, Prague (1953-1958); postgraduate studies at Peking University (1958-1960); fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (1967-1968); fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation (1969-1970). Shorter research stays (2-4 months) at the Universities, or research centres in Munich, Hong Kong, Berlin, Bonn and Taipei between 1987-1997

Specialization: Chinese creative literature and literary criticism, Sino-Western intellectual history, East-West comparative literature and culture

Activities: Since 1960 at the Institute of Oriental and African Studies, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava

Lecturing: Since 1988 lectures on Chinese history, literature and philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Comenius University, Bratislava

Publications: 4 scholarly monographs (in English), 2 of them published in Chinese, 3 edited conference volumes (in English), 7 book translations from Chinese into Slovak (2 of them in collaboration), more then 150 papers (mostly in English, Chinese, and German), 228 book reviews and review articles
